Apple Could Make iPhone 17 Air Slimmer Than iPhone 16 Pro: Know More

Apple is planning to bring some major changes in 2025 with the iPhone 17 Slim or Air. Since its announcement, the new model has grabbed the headlines as tipsters become active to share every new piece of information emerging regarding the handset. Now, in a new leak, the new model is said to be two millimetres thinner than the iPhone 16 Pro model, according to Mark Gurman from Bloomberg.

In his weekly Power On newsletter, Gurman revealed that the upcoming iPhone 17 Air model is expected to be about 2mm slimmer than the current model. For reference, the iPhone 16 Pro is 8.25 mm in thickness, so the ultra-slim iPhone 17 could be 6.25 mm thick. If the rumours are to be believed, the iPhone 17 Air could become the slimmest iPhone ever, surpassing the iPhone 6’s record with 6.9 mm thickness.

Gurman also highlighted that the tech giant is also expected to design a new chip specialised for the iPhone 17 Air that will be more efficient in performance and will take less space inside the phone. This extra space may allow Apple to make the iPhone 17 Air thinner and fit other crucial components without any compromises, such as battery, camera, or display.

Besides, Apple is planning to integrate the custom 5G modem chip in the upcoming model for improved connectivity. These new 5G chips, expected to launch in early 2025, will likely be smaller and more efficient than 5G chips by Qualcomm.

As Apple continues to experiment with its modem chip technology, the extra space created could make way for innovations like foldable devices. As of now, the company is actively working on exploring the foldable ‌iPhone‌ technology to bring a competitive model to the foldable market.

Apart from the iPhone 17 Air’s slimness, the brand is expected to bring the 120 Hz ProMotion display and a single 48 MP camera at the back, which takes us back to the days of the iPhone 8 series. Moreover, the ultra-slim iPhone will be packed with 8 GB of RAM to run the Apple Intelligence features.
