Apple MacBooks To Finally Lose The Ugly Notch On Display: When It Might Happen
The premium MacBook lineup could see major design changes in the next few years. The MacBook Pro has been tipped to be upgraded to OLED panels by 2026 and now reports say the company could make a bigger screen overhaul that could get rid of the ugly notch from the MacBooks.
When Apple brought the notch to the MacBooks, it did split opinions but mostly people were not sure how it fits into the design ideology of the company. So, the MacBook Pro lineup in 2026 or 2027 will see an iPhone-like change that could have more credibility.
Goodbye Notch, Hello OLED
Apple is going to make some solid upgrades and the news coming out of the rumour mill suggests the MacBook Pro will get most of them. Bringing OLED to the Pros is inevitable, as the iPad Pro already got it in 2024 so it is pivotal that the company makes the move for OLED panels on its premium Macs as well.
The company has also already given the Macs a full hardware upgrade with the new M4 Pro/Ultra chipsets powering the new models. But the design has mostly been the same, while the basic features have remained unchanged for a while.
We are hoping that Apple also adds the ProMotion display tech with the new display for the MacBook Pro which will be essential if the prices invariably go up in the next few years. In addition to OLED, we could also see Apple adopt the Dynamic Island feature on the MacBook Pros which means you get the punch hole cut out replacing the ugly notch that has looked like an eyesore in the recent Macs.
The company is also expected to bring the M4-version of the MacBook Air sometime early next year. The new model is likely to keep the same design and only offer a big performance boost with the M4 silicone.
