Google Play Store Likely To Get A Download Manager: What Does It Mean

Google Play Store is reportedly working on a new download manager that will track and display the apps that have been downloaded most recently on an Android smartphone. This feature was discovered during an analysis of an Android Application Package (APK) from a specific version of the Google Play Store and is expected to provide users with a list of their recent downloads.

Additionally, apps that have been downloaded but not yet opened will be highlighted when users exit the manager.

According to a report by Android Authority, the Google Play Store's Download Manager will automatically appear once an app installation is initiated. The APK breakdown of Google Play Store version 42.9.16-31 revealed multiple references to the Download Manager, including features that arrange downloads based on their scheduled and installation times.

According to the report, when users open an app from the downloaded list, a screen displaying any downloaded but unopened apps will be shown. Additionally, users will reportedly see a badge at the top of the app details page indicating the total number of apps and games downloaded.

However, the general public currently cannot access the Google Play Store's Download Manager, as it was manually activated during the APK teardown. The features identified through this process are primarily intended for developer testing, and there remains uncertainty regarding their eventual public release.

The Google Play Store has released many new features in the last several months. The capacity to download up to three apps or app updates at once is part of this. Google also recently stopped creating large Android Application Packages (APKs) and instead prioritised its Android App Bundle (AAB), which was another significant move. The fact that users now need to install an APK bundle installer beforehand may make sideloading programs a little more tedious.
