Redmi Note 14 Pro+ Is A Premium Phone With Eccentric Traits

Redmi Notes have matured and that has come with a big price bump that takes it away from the value-for-money segment. But Xiaomi has made sure that price increase does not happen without notable and significant upgrades with features and hardware. The Redmi Note 13 Pro models were a sure sign of the changing guard and the new Redmi Note 14 Pro models are taking it a notch further.

The new Redmi Note Pro Plus model starts from Rs 30,999 which is not affordable by any means and more than the average selling price of a phone in the country these days. Having said that, the higher models do get premium hardware specs but does that make it comparable to other power-packed devices in this range? Here’s our review that tells you all.

Premium Demands Fulfilled

The Redmi Note 14 Pro Plus has most premium elements covered, including the stylish vegan leather design that has its appeal. The textured finish comes with a dual-ish tone and the hand grip because of the curved frame makes it easy to use with one hand. The device weighs 210 grams but the distribution and the design balance will never make you feel its heft and that is appreciable.

The curved frame is slowly going out of trend for quad-curved panels but you cannot deny its convenience, even if at the cost of durability to some extent.

Speaking of which, the Pro Plus model now gets IP68 + IP69 rating like a few more we have seen recently, and this allows you to clean the phone with high-pressure water, still not conducive to go underwater and you should not try it either.

The Curve Profile

Redmi Note 14 Pro Plus features a curved AMOLED display that supports 120Hz refresh rate and Dolby Vision. The screen gets Corning Gorilla Victus 2 protection which has shown its durability over the last year. The display offers crisp details, punchy colours and the viewing angles are also good. The 6.67-inch size is probably the ideal that people would prefer which doesn’t feel too big and unwieldy.

The Pro Cameras?

Redmi Note 14 Pro Plus gets two 50MP wide and telephoto sensors along with an 8MP ultrawide lens. Only the main sensor gets OIS support. The primary 50MP shoots detailed images with some noticeable colour tuning differences but nothing that can be termed as a deal breaker.

The 50MP telephoto lens allows you to explore the world of macros to good effect and the quality will satisfy most people. The low light imaging can be a mixed bag where some photos had details and the right light effect, while some had visible noise that can be tweaked with software updates.

The Not-So-Pro Hardware

As we said earlier, the Redmi Note 14 Pro Plus has some upgrades but some are hard to understand. The use of the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 chipset feels like a pricing move to allow other changes to come through and that is fine. The benchmark scores tell us where the device stands among its peers which might get people concerned about its overall longevity. You get different models with UFS 2.2 and UFS 3.1 storage technology which is the result of using this chipset.

Having said that, we did not face any issues using the device over the last few weeks, and did not notice any major lag or stutter and we are hoping the company’s claims of the phone lasting long comes true.

Moving to the OS, the HyperOS version is available out of the box but only with Android 14 version, which means the promised three OS support from the company will include Android 15 as well, not ideal for a premium device these days. Also, the pre-loaded apps saga continues even though the Redmi Note Pro models have gone up the price ladder.

Xiaomi had a clear reason for offering these apps pre-installed but then the price was a major factor in its favour. We do not like the brands offering these apps on premium devices and that stands even for a phone costing Rs 35,000 in the market.

No Endurance Worries

The Redmi Note 14 Pro Plus is the latest in the market to pack a 6,000mAh+ battery with support for fast charging. The silicon carbon grade unit is allowing brands to make sleek devices without compromising on battery life, and the new Redmi Note 14 Pro Plus is a prime example of this technology change.

The device lasts for well over a day and the PCMark score of around 20 hours is a pretty good indication of its ability to withstand daily usage of all nature.

The Redmi Note 14 Pro Plus offers credible premium traits with its curved design, IP rating and reliable cameras. Even the battery life is good for its stature. However, the performance range feels slightly underwhelming compared to its rivals and at this price we have to take all things into consideration. Also, giving Android 14 out of the box is not ideal, especially when they will offer the 15 version as one of the three OS upgrades for the device.
