Google Pixel Phones Finally Getting Love In India? Here’s What We Know

Google found it hard to break the premium phone market in India for many years with its Pixel models but it seems the company is finally catching up with its rivals. And Google’s growth has reportedly come at the cost of OnePlus which has seen its market share drop in the country, right before the new OnePlus 13 series is unveiled for the market this week.

The new details come via research firm Canalys, which paints a promising picture for Google, while concerns around how OnePlus is going about in the market. In total, 6.5 million high-end phones were shipped in India over the last three quarters in 2024.

Google’s share in this segment has gone up from 1 percent to 5 percent in 2024, while at the same time, OnePlus saw its position drop drastically from 21 percent to just 6 percent. These figures will be of concern to the brand, especially when the likes of Vivo and Oppo have seen their position get stronger.

Finally Getting Its India Plans Right?

Google has been around for years with the Pixel lineup and the brand has mostly been casual with its approach in the Indian market. But things have changed in recent years, especially in 2024, when we saw all the Pixel products, including the Fold 9 Pro launch in the country.

The pricing still remains an issue but Google has now started making the Pixel 8 models in India, and like the iPhone 16 models, it is likely that the local pricing will eventually come down for the buyers. As for OnePlus, they need a robust strategy offline to ensure that buyers are not discouraged from getting their phones, and offers like lifetime screen warranty should help in this regard.

The OnePlus 13 series is launching this week, and the next few quarters will tell us if people are now happy spending their money on the new OnePlus models to kick start its growth once again.
