Samsung Likely To Unveil Its Tri-Fold Phone This Year But Everybody Won’t Get It
Samsung is ready to enter the foldable space once again and we might see the brand introduce its own tri-fold phone later this year. Reports this week suggest the company is likely to enter this segment in the second half of 2025 which seems doable for the brand. Samsung has its own display unit that makes screens of all kinds and making a tri-fold design will probably be its biggest challenge till date.
We still don’t have a lot of details about the rumoured tri-fold device but the same report says Samsung will opt for a different unfolding mechanism from the Huawei Mate XT that made its debut recently in China.
The Mate XT features three screens that fold outward, exposing the displays when closed and increasing the risk of damage. Samsung’s speculated design, according to Android Police, is believed to use an ‘in-folding’ mechanism with two inward folds, protecting the display while closed and addressing durability issues.
Samsung is not expecting big sales from this product, which is why it might limit the production units to around 300,000 and that could limit its availability in the top-tier market for the early stage of its development.
It is interesting to see the new report as it was earlier suggested the company might have to delay the launch of the tri-fold device to 2026. Rumours even hinted that its release will coincide with Apple’s entry into the foldable phone market, which is expected around the same time.
We’re eager to see how Samsung plans to go about this in space, as its foldable market seems to have stagnated, at least in terms of the looks. There are other solid contenders in the foldable space these days, and it becomes pivotal for the brand to continue innovating in this segment and bring new form factors to the market.
