Jio Brings 4G And 5G Network At Siachen With First 5G Base Station For Armed Forces

Reliance Jio becomes the first telecom operator to install 5G base stations at Siachen which is the world’s highest battleground. The operator has also become the first to set up its full stack of indigenous 5G technology in the region.

The setting up of a 5G base station in the battleground area will power the Indian Army with 4G and 5G services in the Siachen Glacier region. Jio has partnered with the Indian Army to achieve this milestone, and deployed its pre-configured network equipment to provide high-speed data connectivity to the soldiers in the region.

The big feat of setting up 4G and 5G connectivity in the Siachen Glacier would have been a tough challenge without the adequate support and coordination with the Army group who were entrusted with planning the whole mission, which includes conducting multiple training sessions and other testing before making it possible to run the networks in such an inhospitable conditions.

This achievement was made possible in coordination with Army Signallers from planning to multiple training sessions, system pre-configuration, and comprehensive testing.

It was also because of the Indian Army that Jio was able to airlift the heavy 5G equipment to the Siachen Glacier which has now resulted in providing connectivity at 16,000 feet in the Karakoram range where the temperatures touch as low as -50 degrees Celsius in peak conditions. Bringing 5G network to Siachen also shows Jio’s efforts to connect the remotest parts of the country and offer high-speed connectivity to the armed forces and other people living in the region.

Jio has been actively extending its support in the Himalayan region and expansion of its network in the Ladakh region has moved at a steady pace, keeping the border posts equipped to tackle any communication challenges.
