Your Next Wireless Headphone Might Work Through Wi-Fi In Your House: What We Can Tell
Wireless headphones or earbuds have used Bluetooth for connectivity till date but in 2025, we could finally see them going truly wireless with support for Wi-Fi networks. Yes, the new range of earbuds launching this year could offer Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity for pairing with your phone.
Qualcomm is powering this new feature through its latest Snapdragon chip that will completely negate the purpose of using headphones in a range of 20 feet from the paired device. Having Wi-Fi in its armoury will also allow the audio quality to improve, and most likely offer lossless music even wirelessly on Android phones.
Wi-Fi For Wireless Music: What To Expect
Qualcomm announced its new chip a while back and confirmed that new products with this hardware will be launching in the near future from brands like Bose, Jabra, Dynamic and Edifier among others. The new chip offers a variety of upgrades but getting Wi-Fi to run these audio products will surely be a game changer in more than one way.
So when we see the new earbuds launch with support for Wi-Fi later this year, we want to see how the tech effectively links up with Bluetooth (the de-facto connectivity support) to ensure you get seamless audio playing. Running the headphones through Wi-Fi will not only increase your wireless range to use the audio products but also increase the overall standby time of these devices and your phone.
The brands mentioned by Qualcomm for this tech suggest the feature will be offered to the premium range initially, which also means you will need a phone that is powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset or higher. We are yet to see these features available through the new audio gear which could become a reality in 2025.
