Elon Musk’s X Looks To Rival TikTok With This New Feature For Users In US
The TikTok ban has many people confused in the United States this week and its rival platforms are now looking to benefit from these issues. X and other apps like Bluesky are now venturing into the vertical video segment and these feeds are now available for people living in the United States.
TikTok ban news is getting a lot of coverage, and rightly so. The short video apps will now look to attract the TikTok users and we are seeing the likes of Instagram launching new apps and tools to make it appealing for deflection. Coming back to X, the vertical video feed works exactly like other apps and you don’t even need to install a new app or create a new account to try out this feature.
Apple and Google have already acted on the TikTok ban in the US by removing it from their respective app stores and we could see that change as the US President Donald Trump passes an executive order to get the platform running once again.
The ByteDance-owned platform faces a tough few months, needing to be run or controlled partially by a US-based company. Many contenders have thrown their names in the ring, including X owner Elon Musk and Perplexity AI among others.
The TikTok ban saga in the US is surely more convoluted compared to its situation in India, where the platform was banned in 2020 for originating from China and its apparent on-ground tensions. Bluesky is another platform that wants to tap into the vertical video-viewing audience in the US, owned by former Twitter CEO, Jack Dorsey.
This isn’t the last time we are hearing about the TikTok ban news in the US and even when the app is finally made available on app stores once again, the new deadline to make TikTok more local will be pivotal for its future in the country.
